April brings warmer days, increased rainfall, and active growth across Middle Tennessee. This is when maintenance efforts shift into high gear.
“April is when landscapes respond quickly to attention,” said Patrick Haller, president of Haller’s Landscaping and Nursery, Inc. “Timely maintenance now prevents problems later.”
Here’s what commercial property managers should focus on in April:
- Full Irrigation Activation Systems should be fully operational, properly zoned, and adjusted for spring weather patterns. Overspray and runoff should be corrected early.
- Bed Preparation and Mulching Refresh mulch to improve moisture retention, suppress weeds, and give beds a clean, uniform appearance. Adding a preemergent to mulching will provide about six weeks of control.
- Weed Prevention Early-season weed control is more effective and less labor-intensive than reactive treatments later in the year.
- Turf Recovery Address thin or stressed turf areas before summer heat arrives. Consistent mowing and proper watering support even growth.
- Hardscape Inspections Freeze-thaw cycles can shift pavers and curbing. Identifying issues now helps avoid trip hazards and more extensive repairs.
As part of long-term planning, Haller’s is developing greenhouse capacity to support future plant needs for our clients’ commercial landscapes. This allows for greater consistency in plant material and better alignment with seasonal installation schedules.
April maintenance is about momentum. Properties that stay ahead this month typically require fewer corrections during peak summer.
